5 Tips for Maintaining a Healthy Lifestyle

At this critical moment, we start working from home, and campus access is limited. As we stay home and are stuck with the food available in our fridge, our lives have been spent at home, where physical activity is limited.  Excessive eating and sitting can lead to stress, anxiety, and depression, and even cause obesity. To avoid this situation, you need to change your lifestyle and adopt a healthy lifestyle. 

Fortunately, with a few lifestyle changes, you can maintain a healthy lifestyle.  Here I would like to share some basic tips for spending a healthy and happy life:

1. Eat a Healthy Diet

    Eat a combination of different foods, including fruit, vegetables, legumes, nuts, and whole grains. When preparing your meal, keep in mind that your plate should include all the necessary nutrients. Adults should take at least five portions (400g) of fruit and vegetables per day. You can ensure proper intake of fruits and vegetables by always adding veggies to your meals. 

    You can also eat a variety of fruits and vegetables as snacks instead of unhealthy food. Eating healthy food helps you reduce the risks of malnutrition and chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and cancer.

    2. Drink Plenty of Water and Stay

      Most of the time, we forget to drink water and get dehydrated. To stay healthy and active, you should drink plenty of water. Doctors recommend drinking at least 8 to 10 glasses per day. Staying hydrated not only keeps you fresh but also helps you lose weight.

      Surgical drinks are unhealthy and cause diabetes, so if you are not a fan of plain water, you can add some flowers with slices of orange, lemon, watermelon, or cucumber.

      3. Take Care of your Dental Health

        Your overall health depends on your dental health. Strong and clean teeth help chew food easily and completely, improving digestion and promoting overall health. Dirty and unhealthy teeth can cause stomach issues. To keep your teeth healthy and shiny, you should brush daily with quality toothpaste. A daily workout is great for your body and mind.  Ensuring to do just 30 minutes of walking five times a week. If you find it difficult, short bursts help, too.

          5. Avoid Unhealthy Habits 

            Unhealthy habits include poor diet, physical inactivity, smoking, excessive alcohol, and lack of sleep. These habits increase the risk of chronic diseases like diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. Also, these behaviors negatively impact mental health, causing stress and anxiety. To avoid this routine, you should replace routines with healthier alternatives like improved sleep, hygiene, regular exercise, and balanced nutrition.
